SKB is responsible for planning and constructing Sweden’s facilities for the final disposal of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. This includes long term programmes for new disposal facilities in Forsmark and a capsule factory in Oskarshamn, involving substantial technical and financial investments over several decades.

The planned facilities involve complex procurements with high requirements for safety, structure and long term delivery capability. SKB required clear contracting strategies, well considered procurement packaging, realistic procurement plans and an effective organisation capable of managing an investment programme of approximately SEK 18 billion.
Coreco carried out an advisory assignment that resulted in procurement strategies for three major programmes related to disposal facilities for low and intermediate level waste, a repository for spent nuclear fuel, and the capsule factory. The work included structuring procurement, developing contracting strategies, planning procurement processes and designing the organisation for delivery. This provided SKB with a solid foundation for managing its long term investments in an efficient and safe manner.
